What is the Horizons Summer Program?

Horizons Savannah is one of America's best summer learning programs, as recognized by The Wallace Foundation and The National Summer Learning Association. Horizons Savannah is a six-week summer program of academic, cultural and recreational activities for low-income, K-12 students who live in Savannah. Our full-day program includes academic classes for reading, math, and science project-based learning. Their afternoons are filled with swimming, art, music and cultural activities. Once a week, every class has a field trip to grow, challenge, and engage students in a new experience.

Who is eligible to attend?

The family must meet the state of Georgia income guidelines and qualify for free or reduced price meals in the public school system.

How long is the program?

Horizons is a 6 weeks long, full-day program from 8:30am-3pm.

How much does our Summer Program cost?

Unlike other summer camps, Horizons works specifically with families with low-income that meet our income eligibility guidelines. There are no weekly fees for Horizons. Parents are asked to pay a $35 registration fee, which can be waived in case of hardship.

Where is our summer program held?

Horizons Savannah is hosted by three private schools in Savannah: Savannah Country Day School (K-12), St. Andrew's School (K-5th) and Bethesda Academy (6-8th). These schools provide us with the use of their facilities during the summer at no cost. As a host school, they are committed to our vision of closing the achievement gap for low-income students. Savannah Country Day school serves as Horizons' fiscal agent.

Do you provide transportation?

Transportation to and from our host campus at Savannah Country Day school is not provided. All students are dropped off and picked up at Savannah Country Day School.  Transportation to and from Bethesda Academy during the day is provided for middle grades students and for field trips.  Transportation from a central location to St. Andrew's School is provided.

Is there an attendance policy?

Yes, it is extremely important that children attend the program every day.  You should not plan trips, doctor’s appointments or anything else that would keep your child from attending all program days.  If your child misses 3 days or more because of non-medical emergencies, we will not invite him or her to return the following year and will give his or her place to another child.  This policy will be strictly enforced.

Will Meals be provided?

All students are provided with breakfast, lunch and a snack each day.
