Swim Coordinator (Full time, Summer Only)

The Swim Coordinator is a seasonal, temporary position that reports directly to the Executive Director. Horizons is looking for an enthusiastic, team player with a passion swimming. In cooperation with the Executive Director and Site Supervisors, the Swim Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of all swim instruction, testing, swim team and swim events throughout the summer. The Swim Coordinator will work with the Executive Director to maintain the safest pool environment with all needed supplies and personnel. This position is responsible for overseeing lifeguards and swim instructors. This position is also responsible for completing any required swim testing of students, reports on student progress and submitting testing data to the Executive Director or the National Office.

Lifeguard (Part-Time, Summer Only)

Horizons Savannah is seeking Lifeguards for the summer program at an outdoor pool for the weeks of June 3rd-July 11th to lifeguard during structured swim lessons. As a certified summer lifeguard, your primary responsibility is to maintain a safe swimming environment by enforcing all rules and regulations of the pool and surrounding area. In addition to rule enforcement, a certified pool lifeguard may be responsible for chemical maintenance and record-keeping and first aid. A lifeguard is also responsible for inspecting the facility on a daily basis and reporting any unsafe conditions or faulty equipment to the Swim Coordinator.

To be a Lifeguard, you must at least:

  • Be a minimum of 16 years old

  • Have or be able to obtain Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.

  • Pass a fingerprint based background check​

  • Lifeguard certification available!

Swim Instructor (Part-Time, Summer Only)

Horizons Savannah is seeking Swim Instructors for the summer program at an outdoor pool for the weeks of June 3rd-July 11th teach structured swim lessons from the StarFish Swim School Curriculum. As a certified swim instructor, your primary responsibility is to maintain a safe swimming environment and teach small group swim lessons. In addition to rule enforcement, a certified swim instructor may be responsible for record keeping and first aid.

To be a Lifeguard, you must at least:

  • Be a minimum of 16 years old

  • Have or be able to obtain StarFish Swim School Instructor Certification

  • Pass a fingerprint based background check​

  • Certification training available!

Co-Teacher (Full-Time, Summer Only)

Horizons Savannah is seeking Co-Teachers for the summer program during the weeks of June 1st-July 16th. The Co-Teacher is an assistant to the Horizons Lead Teacher. Co-Teachers aid in the classroom duties of teaching and caring for approximately 16 students during a six week summer enrichment program. They are responsible for helping to plan daily classroom schedule and assisting in instruction. They work in partnership with approximately 2 volunteers in the classroom each day, attend swim instruction lessons with students providing encouragement to students, and attend weekly field trips, including outdoor activities. They may be asked to plan and execute special activities for students including but not limited to story time, art, sports, or other recreational or creative opportunities.

To be a Co-Teacher, you must at least:

  • Pass a fingerprint based background check​

  • Provide three professional references

Lead Teacher- Lower and Middle Grades (Full-Time, Summer Only)

Horizons Savannah is seeking  Lead Teachers for the summer program during the weeks of June 1st-July 16th. Lead teachers have the classroom duties of teaching and caring for approximately 16 students during a six week summer enrichment program. They are responsible for planning daily classroom schedule and  instruction. They work in partnership with approximately 2 volunteers and a co-teacher in the classroom each day, attend swim instruction lessons with students providing encouragement to students, and attend weekly field trips, including outdoor activities. They may be asked to plan and execute special activities for students including but not limited to story time, art, sports, or other recreational or creative opportunities.

To be a Lead Teacher, you must at least:

        Be a certified  teacher or have equivalent credentials 

  • Pass a fingerprint based background check​

  • Provide three professional references

High School Coordinator (Full-Time, Summer Only)

This position will coordinate all aspects of the Horizons High School program for students grades 9th-12th, including interacting with Horizons graduates to determine areas of support needed, recruiting volunteers to assist as mentors, training volunteers, planning graduate events and working with families to provide information and guidance.  This position will supervise high school students during the program, on field trips, and during volunteer service both on and off campus. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Horizons will hire a candidate with relevant experience working with students from under resourced communities, or with a background in youth development/non-profit organizations.  Candidates should possess the following:

 

  • Work experience in the education or non-profit sector

  • Commitment to Horizons’ mission, purpose and values

  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents including area public school guidance counselors and teachers, community-based leaders, and Horizons families

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Submit to and pass a fingerprint background check, provide 3 professional references

 

Compensation will be based on experience and expertise.
